Herbert W. Simmons

Herbert W. Simmons, 80, of Du Quoin, passed away at 3:56 P.M., Sunday, November 28, 2004 at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Herbert was a retired electrician.  He was of the Gospel Assembly faith.  He was a member of IBEW Local 702 and 32nd Degree Mason.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran of W.W. II.  He was an aircraft repairman for twenty years.  He refinished aircrafts, repaired engines and occasionally flew the aircrafts.
He was born November 17, 1924 at Cash, Arkansas, the son of Walter and Nellie (Smith) Simmons.
He married Helen Beatrice "Bea" Whitney on October 21, 1947 at Newport, Arkansas and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, two sons - Bobby J. Simmons and wife Sue of Du Quoin and Billy Dean Simmons of Du Quoin, two sisters - Charsley Gibson and Lucy Sockey, both of Newport, Arkansas, one brother - Homer Simmons of Bald Knob, Arkansas, three grandchildren - Sue Ann Patalas, Stephanie Sizemore, and B.J. Simmons, all of Du Quoin, and four great grandchildren - Logan and Caitlyn Patalas, Shelby Simmons and Scoutt Sizemore, all of Du Quoin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Funeral services were at 9:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Dennis Fitzsimmons officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Holloway Cemetery at Craighead County, Arkansas.

Friends called from 6 to 8 P.M., Wednesday at Langfords-Bookout Funeral Home in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Graveside services were held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday at the Holloway Cemetery.
